About the Artist

Michael Husni is a performer and teacher based in Middletown High School, Middletown DE. After earning his Master's degree in Performance at Queen Mary, University of London, Michael returned to Delaware to teach Spanish and Drama. At Middletown High School, he directs fall plays and spring musicals in MHS's after school programs and leads Delaware's one and only school-based Puppetry troupe, Puppetry in Education.

Puppetry in Education is comprised of current Middletown High School students who write their own material each year as well as designing and constructing their own puppets. Established in 2009, PIE has performed to hundreds of students in northern Delaware, originating shows about Bully Prevention, Cultural Tolerance, Being True to One's Self, and Telling the Truth with a puppet cast of over 25 different characters! Under Husni's direction, PIE has explored several mediums to bring characters to life, including foam, Muppet-style puppets, shadow puppets, and even puppetry for television. All shows include audience interaction and are designed to keep children smiling as they watch their teenage counterparts make puppetry more popular in the Delaware community.

Featured in the Wilmington News Journal, WDDE, WILM, and the Middletown Transcript in recent years, Husni and his troupe have become one of the premiere puppetry acts in northern Delaware. After attending the National Puppet Festival (r)Evolution at Swarthmore College in 2013, Husni aims to have his work produced at future national festivals as he continues his membership in Puppeteers of America.
