About the Artist

CACC Folk Dance Troupe

The CACC Folk Dance Troupe was formed at the Chinese American Community Center (CACC) in Hockessin, DE in 1992 with the support of a group of enthusiastic parents.  This troupe was formed with the purpose of bringing Chinese dance and culture to young Chinese Americans growing up in this area, along with sharing the beauty and richness of the Chinese culture, arts and heritage with the general public.

The teachers and choreographers are Ling Tang, Chin-Sui Lee Choi and Stella Choi.  Ling Tang is an instructor at the China Institute and a teaching artist with the Washington Performing Arts Society.  Chin-Sui Lee Choi or Teacher Lee is Director of the Fairfax Chinese Dance Troupe in Fairfax, VA established in 1988.  The dance troupe’s Director is Debbie French.  The dancers range in age from 8 years old to high school age and come from the tri-state area (DE, MD and PA).  Practice is held weekly on Sunday afternoons at CACC.

The CACC Folk Dance Troupe performs at local events, and at the national and international levels.  In 2013, the dance troupe represented Delaware in the 57th Presidential Inaugural Parade, and performed in the London New Year's Day Parade in 2012 and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2009.  This dance troupe's performances at special events include the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Institute, the Grand Opera House, the Playhouse Theatre, National Theatre, and at the annual Autumn Festivals, Chinese New Year's Celebrations and Chinese Festivals at CACC.  The troupe has also performed at the Delaware Dance Festival, the Winterthur Museum, Longwood Gardens, the International Children’s Festival at Wolf Trap, the Philadelphia Zoo, at First Night in Wilmington on New Year’s Eve and at the Governor’s Inaugural Gala.
