About the Artist

Susan Duer holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Music from Temple University and a Bachelor of Music from Combs College.  During her graduate studies, she taught at Temple University College of Music as affiliate faculty.

Susan Duer won the Governot's Arts Award for pioneering rural touring in Nevada, numerous travel and professional development grants from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, and most recently, an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Delaware Division on the Arts.  Susan Duer is the first fortepianist to win a direct Solo Recitalist Fellowship frpm the National Endowment for the Arts.  She was the alternate Fulbright Scholar to Rome during her Masters degree studies.

Susan Duer holds certifications as a fitness instructor and currently teaches mat Pilates in addition to her concert schedule.

Susan Duer is an engaging performer who creates a personal connection with the audience.  She offers standard recitals, informal community concerts, and interactive educational programs.  Her verbal program notes are well thought out and strictly limited to a sentence or two.  Standard repertoire for late eighteenth  century piano (fortepiano) features compositions by Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn and their contemporaries;  she occasionally adds baroque, romantic and contemporary   repertoire.

General audiences react positively to Susan Duer's concerts, to the beautiful clear sound of the instrument and to the immediacy and excitement these qualities add to the musical experience;  this is a unique opportunity for the community based audience.
