About the Artist

Jonathan Whitney has his bachelor’s degree in music education with a concentration in percussion from the University of Delaware, and his masters of music in jazz studies from the University of the Arts.  During his final years at the University of Delaware, as well as for several years following his graduation, Jonathan worked extensively with jazz legend Donald Byrd on numerous education projects. He taught middle and high school instrumental music for eleven years at the Tatnall School, and he was the music coordinator for his final two years. He then spent four years as the artistic director of the Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education. He has also worked as a composer/arranger for many organizations including Brandywine High School, Shepherd University, Christiana High School, Tuscarora High School, and the Wilmington Children’s Chorus. Jonathan has performed with a variety of artists including Linda Clifford, Pamela Stanley, the Chantels, the Ellen Lebowitz Quartet, the Don Glanden Trio, the Wilmington Children’s Chorus, the Delaware Symphony, along with performing with his own ensembles. He continues to perform regularly within a variety of musical genres including classical, jazz, rock, pop, and gospel. Jonathan is currently he Manager of Performance Programs and Community Engagement at the Delaware Art Museum and the artist-in-residence at the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew in Wilmington Delaware.
