About the Artist

Robert Bruce Weston is a master cabinetmaker who has retired to Delaware to pursue his love of art.

During 40 years of on the job training working for and with many famous architects in the New York Metropolitan region, he has absorbed much from their compositional abilities and design expertise. In retirement he has settled into making paintings using his preferred medium of wood veneer marquetry.

His art consists of a novel form of marquetry. This pursuit involves using the wood's characteristic grain structure to bring an image to life. In contrast, traditional marquetry uses tiny pieces of wood intended to create a copy of an image that already exists such as a photograph. His works, in contrast, are generally either abstract, graphic, or fantasy images, sometimes even surreal representations, intended to allow the viewer a more personal interpretation than classic marquetry might allow.

He does fewer than 10 selling shows on the Delmarva Peninsula each year, and has an in home gallery which can be seen by appointment. He imaintains memberships in the American and British Marquetry Societies, the Biggs Museum's Delaware by Hand, Rehoboth and Ocean City Art Leagues and the American Craft Council. Besides his selling shows he exhibits frequently at both Art Leagues.
