The Transition Assistance Advisor (TAA) is a federal contract position with the National Guard.
TAAs serve guard and reserve service members and veterans who have:
- Obtained at least 180 days of continuous active duty (Primary group)
- Retirees
- Post-deployments
- Separations
TAAs also assist Guard and Reserve who have not obtained 180 days of active duty.
TAAs provide one-on-one education and assistance with federal, state and local benefits, primarily through the Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Benefit Administration, and Department of Labor.
TAAs serve as an advoate on behalf of service members and veterans in areas such as:
- State benefits, programs, discounts
- VA healthcare enrollment, VA and Vet Center counseling, TRICARE, Line of Duty assistance, etc.
- Disability Claims assistance with the Veterans Administration and Social Security Administration
- Employment assistance/Education and training
- Military life insurance programs, transitional health and dental
- VA home loans, hardship, retirement
- Legal assistance
- Career change such as can happen with retirements and separations
- Relocation assistance; homeless, out-of-state transfers,employment
- Locate records; medical and service, DD214, etc.
